Description

He’s always watching. She’s starting to want him to.

What do you do if you have an injured raccoon with a boob fetish, dead bodies being dropped in your driveway, and a masked stalker who watches you, breaks into your bedroom at night, and takes your body to heights you didn’t know were possible?

If you’re Dr. Luna Foster, owner of Sage & Summit Wildlife Sanctuary, you seek out your new neighbor, Damien Wolfe, billionaire security mogul, and ask him to wire your property with security cameras.

But little do you know… He might just be the most dangerous predator of them all.

Damien
I have three rules: stay hidden, leave no traces, never let the target know. But Dr. Luna Foster’s smile shatters every rule I’ve lived by. Now I want her to see me, to know what kind of monster is watching her. I’ve spent years in the dark, perfecting the art of hunting those who deserve death. Now I’ve found someone who makes me want to step into the light—even if it means she’ll see the blood on my hands.

Luna
The first time I feel someone watching, I’m terrified. The second time, I’m curious. By the third, I’m leaving my curtains open on purpose. But when I realize my stalker isn’t the nightmare—he’s the one who hunts them—I find myself craving his deadly attention. Slowly, the weight of his gaze starts to feel less like terror and more like a deadly promise I want him to keep. I’m drawn to a monster, but it feels like freedom.

Fans of H.D. Carlton’s Haunting Adeline, Navessa Allen’s Lights Out, Sheridan Anne’s Pretty Monster, and JA Owenby’s In the Shadows will devour this unforgettable series where love and violence dance hand in hand.

Luna is a wildlife vet, running an animal sanctuary in Colorado, taking in animals injured by accident and abuse. With a collection of “pets”, including a wolf, her life revolves more around them and their care than about having a social life. When she starts feeling that she’s being watched from the forest, she is terrified. By the time her mysterious masked visitor enters her home, she finds herself straddling the line between terror and desire, unable to keep from giving in. And when bodies of animal abusers start appearing on her property, she knows only one man could be responsible.

Damien has made it his life’s mission to make people pay for their sins, seeking justice for innocent animals who have been wronged. His only rules are to stay hidden, leave no trace, and never let the target know until it’s too late. Then he meets Luna and she tilts his world on its axis. Unable to ignore the pull she has towards him, his fixation quickly becomes obsession, and the closer he gets, the more he struggles to keep the two sides of himself separate.

I received a copy of this book from Bookfunnel and absolutely loved it. The intensity between these two flew off the page, and the secrecy aspect added a whole other layer. Watching Damien struggle with his dual identity was interesting, knowing he is one person, but having kept himself separate for so long, having those lines blur allowed him to show unexpected vulnerability. On the other hand, Luna is torn between the attraction she feels for Damien and the passion she experiences with her Wolf, and I can’t wait to see what happens when she learns the truth.

While this doesn’t end in a true cliffhanger, the story is not resolved at the end, I can’t wait to read book 2 when it comes out in December!

My expectation for this story was greatly exceeded. It was so hauntingly beautiful, and the plot moved so quickly. I thought I was reading a version of Guillermo del Toro’s dark-romance book because the writing is like a professional movie script! ❤️ No joke! It is detailed, fast-paced, and easy to read. V.E. Huntley shows incredible attention to set design and atmosphere.
    ——————-
I don’t know if V.E. Huntley is familiar with filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, but this book leaves me breathless. The scenes here are so beautifully written. It will make you feel you are also there and nervously looking for the nearest exit sign . The story carried me from dread to exhilaration (Ahhh!!!! I’m still in shock, haha!). I was gripped from start to finish. I don’t know how to comment on my thoughts without spoiling too much of the surprises in store, you know.

    What I Love:
I know it seems odd to others, but sorry, not sorry… I honestly love Damien’s inner monologue. I’m a big fan of this type of writing, and I enjoyed it so much because the voice felt so raw and unfiltered. HUGE KUDOS to the narrative pacing…. it perfectly matched his frantic state of mind. What I love about his POV is how he shows he is crazily obsessed and craves Luna Foster (the FMC). I love his dark desire for her. Seriously Ma’am, that’s what turns him into such a compelling, dangerous character. Hihi!

Luna Foster is a wildlife vet who has a strong empathy for all animals. Oooh, I love animals. That’s why I’m loving reading this unique dark romance with an animal-loving heroine❤️❤️. I love the fact that this story is not only a dark romance but also shows you how animals seem to know exactly when the dangerous man is creeping nearby.

Am I weird if I’m excited about the part where Damien starts stalking Luna in the dark while she’s caring for animals and the local owl is silently judging him? ❤️❤️

Help me with the TORTURE part. It is so descriptively written to the point I have to pause to take a deep breath and question my life choices while reading it. I know it’s hard to read those parts, but once you know the truth behind those brutal acts Damien did, your soul will be satisfied.

    ———–
NOTE: This is my personal opinion about the book. My goal is to share my experience, not to change anyone’s perspective. Thank you to V.E. Huntley for giving me the opportunity to read this early.

Review — Watch Me Break by V.E. Huntley
    ⭐️ 4.5 Stars
    SPICE LEVEL: Off. The. Charts.

Oh my god—this book is intense. The tension? Unbearable. The chemistry? Electric. The spice? Let’s just say Luna and Damien could set your Kindle on fire.

I was completely hooked by the story’s dark pull—every look, every chase, every secret. But then… THAT ENDING?! I went to turn the page expecting more, and there was nothing. How can it end like that?! December 3rd can’t come soon enough.

But what I really loved is that even through the darkness, there’s light—found in the shared love of animals that connects Luna and Damien. I’m a total softy for animals, so those moments absolutely melted me.

And yes… we’ve got a boob-obsessed raccoon stealing the spotlight (we’ve got a boob bandit on our hands ), plus Luna’s best friend bringing the perfect balance of wit, jokes, and fierce loyalty. She’s the kind of bestie who will tease you relentlessly but still be your number one supporter—and wingman—when it comes to your dangerously hot new neighbor.

Must be added to your TBR!

I really enjoyed this book! The tension between the FMC (Luna) and MMC (Damien) is chefs kiss. Definitely take a look at the trigger warnings before readying because there may be some things in there that isn’t for you!
Not a true cliffhanger in the end but definitely makes you want to come back for book 2!

The way I frantically scrolled on, hoping for a bonus chapter and then immediately searched for the sequel before beginning a review, says it all.

I loved this. Yes to the tension, the action, the side characters, the depravity, the spice. Yes to it all.

Honestly I cannot relate to Luna because I’m not half as brave as she is. And then I don’t mean airheaded brave. Luna is smart y’all. There are some FMCs out there who are extremely bad-ass but don’t think before they act, kicking down doors, guns blazing, you know the type I’m talking about. That’s not what Luna is.

Granted, even smart girls can make dumb decisions because she had no way of knowing her stalker wouldn’t kill her those first few times she interacted with him. So I’d say nooooot a really smart move on her part, but she did get some great orgasms out of it so it worked out in the end.

Now someone I can relate to, is Maren. I loved her humour and sexual innuendos to lighten the mood. Their frienship is what every girl needs.

What every girl also needs is to have someone obsessing over them like Damien (okay maybe not exactly like Damien because no thank you on the stalker and dubious consent parts irl but you catch my drift).

But sir. SIR. This man is (to quote my beloved Maren) sex on a stick. He was all about possessiveness and I was here for it. And I’m sure we can work on the tenderness and love in the next book, right?

Do read the trigger warnings before reading because this is a dark romance and it gets dark, okay. It might not be for everyone and that’s perfectly fine, but don’t blame the writer thankyew.
